Hey, it's Nikki Trueblood! I'm a current junior at FHS, and I was an officer for the 2019/20 school year. Here is a video I made about honeybees because my dad and I are backyard beekeepers! I've learned so much about honeybees since becoming a beekeeper, and I had so much fun sharing some pretty cool facts about them in the video! Even though bees can be a little scary sometimes, they generally are pretty docile and won't hurt you unless you provoke them somehow. Hopefully this video will show you that bees aren't something to be afraid of; they are our friends! Bees are so important for the pollination of the food we eat, so we wouldn't be able to survive without them! Unfortunately, honeybee hives have been dying from something called colony collapse disorder that is caused by multiple variables including pesticides, poor nutrition, and varroa mites, so the bees need our help! To donate to our local beekeepers in the tri-valley area, go to https://diablobees.org/. Enjoy the video!

Hi my name is Elyse Wohlenberg. I served as president of Local Leaders for the 2019-2020 school year and helped work on the joint AV + FHS Youtube channel where we posted DIY's and other exciting videos. I created a bird feeder from a pine cone as a sustainable and fun at-home activity. I personally love caring for the local birds in my neighborhood and this DIY was one of the best ways to do so. I have always loved making crafts, especially ones that are from reused or sustainable materials. When I have free time I like to make all kinds of DIY's at home to spend time with friends or family. I was excited to create this DIY since I knew it was easy and quick but also followed our club's value of environmental awareness. Hi, my name is Oonagh Connolly. I am currently a junior in high school and a part of the Local Leaders program. The officers at both Amador Valley High School and Foothill High School helped put together an amazing YouTube channel as a part of their Online Youth Outreach program to help reach out to elementary and middle school students during quarantine. I recently created a fun video all about growing avocados from seeds. About a year ago I started growing avocados with my mom who taught me everything I know about gardening. Planting avocados is so much fun and super easy to do! People don't think twice after throwing away their avocado pits in the trash after they've eaten them. It's so sad that people don't realize that they can grow so many plants from seeds and cuttings of fruits and veggies that are usually thrown away. Growing herbs, green onions, garlic, and mint from cuttings is something my family has done since forever ago. Avocados are a new edition to our garden! I hope you and your families will try growing some avocados! Check out my YouTube video below for a full tutorial! |
